We love local churches!

“We are an interdenominational Christian student organization. We work in cooperation with many local churches to aid the spiritual development of young men and women. Traditional, orthodox Christian beliefs are the core of our ministry.”

Campus Crusade for Christ considers itself an arm of the Christian church with a focus in areas like evangelism and discipleship with college students. We work closely with pastors and churches throughout the United States and in every country where we have ministry activities.”

-- From the main Cru website

“If you do not belong to a church, do not wait to be invited.  Take the initiative, call the pastor of a nearby church where Christ is honored and His Word is preached.  Start this week, and make plans to attend regularly.”

--The counsel of Bill Bright (founder of Cru) to new followers of Christ in The Four Spiritual Laws

We encourage our students to be involved with local churches where Christ is honored and the Bible is taught.  All Campus Crusade for Christ staff members are required to be part of local churches as are all St. Louis Cru student leaders—with the desire to be fed, encouraged, and to come under the authority of local church leaders.  St. Louis Cru is a “parachurch” in the sense that we are Christians who are a part of different local churches but have unified together for a common mission—reaching out to college students on their turf, the college campus.  Our aim is to strengthen, not replace, local churches (we do not want to be any student’s “church”).  Our hope is that Cru staff, students and their churches would view the personal ministries of Cru staff and students as a part of the ministry of their local churches--a missional expression of their churches.  For example, when Tim tells Sean about the astonishing love of Jesus, Tim’s church, Cornerstone, considers this to be part of their ministry in St. Louis (they do).
